Volkswagen coolant light flashing3/17/2024 ![]() A scan should be made of the error codes to pinpoint the problem. The little overflow tank seems to need water or coolant on a constant. Replacing this sensor, which I estimate to cost no more than $20, is still a gamble. The coolant light or radiator light is flashing on my jetta, the temp gage never goes higher than the middle reading, but the light comes on right after I start the car, even when it has been sitting all night and reading is 0. The sensor probably is not expensive and should be easy to replace yourself, although you will need to drain the coolant (when cold!) from the radiator petcock into a clean container. A flashing coolant light has nothing to do with the actual coolant, it has to do with the sensor in the coolant tank. The sensor might have a loose connection-maybe just taking the connector off and on several times might help the conductivity. I think you were correct in the first place when you suspected the engine coolant temp. Actually the color of the coolant in the Eurovan has nothing to do with the little temp. ![]() Luis, I don't think you will be needing the coolant heaters now where you live.
